ITINERARY AT A GLANCE

  1. DAY

    New Chitose Airport - Noboribetsu

    Welcome to North Japan! This is a special private tour that allows you to enjoy the best of both Japan’s northernmost island Hokkaido and main island Honshu’s northernmost prefecture Aomori.

    After arriving to New Chitose Airport and meeting your personal driver, it is time to get going! You will get to stretch your feet after the long flight with a nice and relaxing forest walk. When the jet lag starts to get the best of you, it will be nice to get around a small and cozy bonfire. Later, if you still have the energy, you can take a look at the famous, steaming Noboribetsu Hell Valley.

  2. DAY

    Noboribetsu - Yakumo

    Lake Toya in Shikotsu-Toya National Park is famous for its beautiful views. One great way to get all the fun out of the lake scenery and the surrounding nature is winter trekking with horses! Even beginners are warmly welcome to ride these large but gentle animals. In the evening you will get to enjoy excellent Hokkaido hot springs at a charming and atmospheric little inn. Among Japanese Hokkaido is known as the ultimate hot spring destination. A traditional Japanese “kaiseki” dinner with beautiful details will be served for your delight.

    Yakumo - Hakodate

    Both Hokkaido and Aomori are known for fresh, excellent quality oysters, that are delivered to high-end restaurants all around the world. Today you will get to try out cleaning and cracking oysters with your own hands with the help of a local expert. And for lunch it will be nice to learn to make some real sushi with a local sushi master!

    After enjoying a full course of some super fresh seafood and quality time with the locals it is time to head to Hakodate city. The city is famous for its night view and fascinating history.

  4. DAY

    Hakodate - Hakodate

    The city of Hakodate was among the first to open after Japan’s long “Closed Country” Period. The history is visible in the mix of Japanese and Western architecture found in the city. Before catching the Shinkansen Bullet Train and leaving Japan’s northernmost island Hokkaido behind, you will still have a chance to enjoy this unique cityscape. You can perhaps drop by the famous Morning Seafood Market or stroll around at the charming shops and cafes of the historical red brick buildings of Hakodate harbor.

  5. DAY

    Hakodate - Hirosaki

    Welcome to Japan’s main island and it’s northernmost prefecture Aomori! After experiencing a brief trip with the bullet train, you will get to ride a train of a different type: A historical tube train that is reminiscent of the prior World War II era. Inside the train you will be served some nice Japanese sake and local specialties including dried squid!

  6. DAY

    Hirosaki - Aomori

    Today you will get to experience some unique Northern Japanese culture firsthand: You will be visiting a “Kokeshi” doll workshop and even build your own wooden doll with an expert artisan. Kokeshi are limbless wooden doll with beautiful patterns. There are only seven professional Kokeshi doll artisans in Aomori and one of them will give their precious time to you today. Besides meeting an inspiring individual, you will get a truly extraordinary Japan souvenir to bring back home with you.

  7. DAY

    Aomori - Tokyo

    Your Private North Japan Tour is coming to an end, but before starting your way back home either by Shinkansen or airplane we would like to let you experience something beautiful: Ride Hakkoda Ropeway to the top of a snowy mountain to take in the final view of the winter wonderland. If you are lucky, there will be stunning crystallized rime ice sparkling in the sun. The rime ice phenomenon of Aomori is said to be the most beautiful in whole Japan! The silent woods heavy with thick snow look almost like living creatures... You can even enjoy a snowshoe adventure surrounded by this beautiful scenery. When you return home, there will be tons of stories to share about of your unique winter adventure to Japan’s deep north!
