To be honest, Japanese Wine is actually not that famous, YET. A major reason is the climate: Most of Japan’s climate with hot, humid, wet summers and the many typhoons make it very difficult to produce good quality wine. However, some areas in Hokkaido are ideal for growing vines, thanks to dry summers with low precipitation and ideal temperatures. Many wineries started growing wine in Hokkaido and are receiving more and more attention through increasing quality. Together with high quality local dairies and meats, we see a great potential of Hokkaido becoming internationally famous for wine.
