Hiraoka Park’s plum blossoms in Kiyota Ward, Sapporo City, are in peak bloom. As of May 11th, the white plum blossoms are in full flower, while half of the red blossoms are still in bud. The red and white flowers contrast beautifully against the green grass.

Below the parking lot and across the bridge is the “forest of plum trees”.

Around 1,200 plum trees are planted in the park.

This year saw fewer migratory birds that eat the buds, so there are more flowers than usual and are especially pretty.

During this season, temporary booths offer souvenirs and foods such as plum-flavored soft serves and plum-flavored soba.

The long-awaited spring has finally arrived in Sapporo. A gentle air fills the park. The blossoms are expected to be in flower until late May.
