Parfaits are steadily becoming popular in Sapporo, so much so that the expression “shime parfait”—meaning a sweet parfait eaten to finish off an evening of drinking—is gaining currency. There is said to be nearly 20 parfait restaurants in Sapporo City at the moment. In June, an establishment specializing in “Decopa,” short for “decorated cone parfait,” has opened in Sapporo, a welcome addition to the city’s rich parfait culture.
The shop, named Parfait Specialist “Shiawase no Recipe Sweet” Odori-ten, is located between Odori and Tanukikoji, on the first floor of a building facing Nakadori.
Once inside the shop, customers are greeted by a showcase, where they select component parts for their made-to-order parfaits.
The ordering process requires four steps. 1) Choose the type of cone; 2) choose the ice cream; 3) choose the sauce; and finally, 4) choose the toppings. After you’ve checked your choices on the order form, you give the order form to a member of staff. If you’re a first-time customer and can’t decide what to choose, you can also order from a range of standard deco parfaits.

Your customized “deco parfait” is ready in a little over five minutes.

You are provided with a spoon with which to eat your parfait. Take-out parfaits come with disposable spoons. In terms of taste, the parfaits offer lots of fun and variety—there are harmonies of sweet parts and refreshingly tangy parts, and happy surprises like crunchy cookies appearing at the end. Portions are quite generous; some people even have them instead of lunch.
The shop is well lit by windows.
Seats at the back of the shop, where you can savor your parfait in peace. For eat-in customers, the shop serves standard parfaits, such as strawberry parfait, in addition to deco parfaits.
Possibly Sapporo’s only take-out restaurant specializing in parfaits, Shiawase no Recipe Sweet is an excellent place to buy sweet memories to take home from your trip to Hokkaido.
