Located roughly an hour drive from Sapporo, Shinshinotsu is a rural area surrounded by plains and farmland as far as the eye can see. One park located right beside a hot spring hotel is currently offering a popular “empty-handed camping” plan. In addition to seasonal changes to the dinner food selection, they have introduced a new “glamping” (glamorous camping) plan. I’ve gone and checked it out for myself.

A panoramic view of the campsite where a throng of tents has been set up in one section of the large field making up Shinotsu Park. Behind them is a hot spring hotel called the Shinshinotsu Hot Spring Tappunoyo, which is built on the shore of Shinotsu Lake. As it happens, Shinotsu Lake is an oxbow lake formed from the Ishikari river, which flows through the Ishikari-heiya region.

The campers at this site can use the tent (in back) as a place to sleep, and the tarp (in front) for meals and other activities. The latter is a type of tarp that allows you to close the exterior curtain during windy and rainy and weather, providing you with a sense of security.

These are the ingredients for the day’s dinner course. Steak with the Genghis Khan dish, shrimp with the yakitori, etc. It consists of fresh, locally grown Shinshinotsu vegetables, sausage, and more. The showpiece for this year is the Dutch oven cuisine shown in the bottom left corner of the photo. This set consists of a tomato base soup dish stewed in a massive iron pot.

This is where you light the charcoal fire yourself and then cook the meat to a sweet, satisfying sizzle as the camp atmosphere comes to a climax.

A satisfied smile. Eating outside just makes it seem so much tastier, huh?

Here we are throwing cheese-stuffed onigiri into the Dutch oven soup with chicken and vegetables at the conclusion of our meal. Once you do this, it becomes a risotto, allowing you to enjoy it twice. This charming menu really helps warm yourself on chilly nights.

There is a water stream inside the park where you can splash around on hot days.

Simply running freely around the large park field is enough to have a good time. Aside from that, there is a simplified park golf course that your children can enjoy, boat rides on the Shinotsu Lake that offer a wide range of activities, and more. At night, you can immerse yourself in a natural hot spring at the hot spring hotel.

The bathrooms are very clean and comfortable. Naturally, they are equipped with Washlet bidet-toilets.

Now, this is the “glamping” campsite set up on the lakeside. It’s absolutely gorgeous.

Inside these ger-style tents there are two beds and a sofa in front of a coffee table. It’s almost exactly like staying in a hotel.

It’s crazy comfortable! I’m suddenly just overcome with the urge to smile.

This cone-shaped monument is a symbol of the impressive magnificence of Shinotsu Park, a place where you can truly enjoy the outdoor lifestyle to your heart’s content in a safe and expansive setting.
