This is my 6th trip to Hokkaido and our 2nd with HTIT. What a wonderful winter trip it has been to Eastern Hokkaido!
The highlights for us were visiting the sprawling nature parks and places like Notsuke peninsula where we saw a group of wild deer placidly eating grass just next to our van! We loved the ryokan where we saw fishing owls, weasels, foxes and woodpeckers right outside the lobby with the cosy fireplace. And the onsen! Imagine soaking in a natural hot spring rock pool with snowflakes spiralling down and the river bubbling below. Needless to say, we will definitely repeat this!
Outdoor activities were an exhilarating part of our trip such as a snowshoe trek at Shiretoko National park led by a guide who pointed out animal tracks in the snow, falcon, wild deer to us, horse ride along the okhotsk sea, a fantastic dog sled experience where we each got to drive a dog sled led by a team of 7 alaskan huskies across the pristine white snow fields for almost an hour.
Unforgettable moments and we are so glad to have chosen HTIT with Kaori Ikeda as our tour planner and the excellent Tatsuya whom we have come to regard as our family friend as our driver and impromptu guide! =)
