The opening of Sapporo’s night time attraction, “White Lover Park”! [Sapporo]
by Shungo Hanaoka
The night time attraction of “White Lover Park” started in December 2017, conducted by the Ishiya sweets company at a spot very popular among foreigners.
Named the “SWEETS Projection Mapping Theater”. Snow piled onto the adjoining Miyanosawa White lover soccer field acts like a giant screen, making it perfect for the projection of images and videos. Spectators sit in the stands, and can enjoy the roughly 15 minute participatory show, centered on the video.
After buying your ticket, on the way to your seat, there are people lending glow sticks, warm blankets, and zabutons, which you are free to use.
The title of the show is “Black cat and magic sweets”. It’s an adventure story of a black cat purumi, who gathers together friends to help a princess kidnapped by a witch. The show is accentuated by magical fantasy imagery, and starts the story by narration. Throughout, smoke and lasers are used, and there’s even a scene where you can smell a sweet fragrance floating through the air.
Cute toy characters, and dancing performers abound. It’s a stage event where spectators can join in by waving their lights etc. It’s so fun you’ll forget all about the cold!
The same park also has a corner called “Sweets Skate Fantasy” open at the same time. You can enjoy the “skating experience” in the special skate rink that doesn’t use any ice. It’s a seemingly magical rink where the lights and imagery move and respond to the people.
Skate shoes are lent out free of charge, allowing you to really enjoy the skating experience in safety.
When you get hungry, you can enjoy gourmet cuisine at the in-site “Ouruzu” restaurant. A special take-out menu is also offered for the duration that includes jumbo frankfurts, buttered potatoes, and roast beef rice bowls, to name a few, that you can eat on the seats available outside.
There’s also a London bus gourmet corner for light meals inside the grounds.
The newly started night attraction of White Lover Park. The projection mapping show is shown 6 times per day, is free of charge, and will be help up until the end of February. Production includes the use of snow, lights, and illuminations, allowing you to enjoy a truly fantastical new world.
